Mary Shipley Interiors Wins BIA Excellence Award

The BIA recently awarded Mary Shipley Interiors with an Excellence Award for her interior design and merchandising of the 2012 BIA Parade of Homes. Mary received the award on Friday, May 17 at the 26th Annual Marketing & Merchandising Excellence Awards (MAME), hosted by the BIA in Columbus, Ohio.

Mary talks about her inspiration for designing the interiors of the 2012 Truberry Parade Home:

When I begin a design project, I take a moment to think about "Who will live in this space? What is the family like? What are their interests and inspirations?" Creating a fictitious family for the home helps me design interiors that are warm, inviting and luxurious yet comfortable and livable.

The family for this home loves to vacation near the ocean and experience aquatic adventures together. Accented throughout the home, are relics from past diving excursions, antique diving gear and ocean and water inspired art and decor. This family also loves to entertain, with a definite interest in the fruits of the vine, as noted by the stunning custom-built wine storage and bookshelves surrounding the stone fireplace in the great room. My goal was to design a family-friendly home with easy care fabrics, warm and inviting tones of gray with touches of ocean inspired blue/gray and pops of Tangerine Tango - the 2012 Pantone color of the year.

The design for the girl’s bedroom was inspired by artist Camille Grimshaw's paintings of beautiful, young, whimsical mermaids. Perfectly what I envisioned for the room and for a little girl who, like her family, also loves the water. The boy’s room features artwork of beautifully colored sea life and photos taken during snorkeling adventures. The ocean inspiration flows naturally into the Jack and Jill bathroom with a two-sided aquarium and seashell inspired flooring that brings the love of the water into the home. The study offers dual workstations accented by antique diving gear and found oceanic treasures. Custom, all wood bookshelves and storage built-ins are featured, with a cowhide rug providing a touch of whimsy.

Attention to small, personal details within a contemporary, stylish, family-inspired design, helps to tell the story of this wonderful home and the family that lives there. I enjoyed designing a contemporary, sophisticated home with touches of the unexpected that bring the home to life.

Congratulations to Mary Shipley Interiors for winning this prestigious award!
